Dr. Metzger holds a master's degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Linguistics from Gallaudet University and a doctoral degree in Sociolinguistics from Georgetown University. Her doctoral dissertation is an empirically-based examination of power and neutrality issues in the field of interpretation. Dr. Metzger is a professor in the Department of Interpretation at Gallaudet University.

Mr. Fleetwood holds a master's degree in ASL-English Interpretation from Gallaudet University. His master's thesis examines the goal, role, results, and efficacy of signed language interpreting in mainstream educational settings. Mr. Fleetwood works as an adjunct instructor in Gallaudet University's Master of Arts in ASL-English Interpretation program and as a staff interpreter for Sign Language Associates, Inc.

Dr. Metzger and Mr. Fleetwood have served as instructors in Gallaudet University's Cued Language Transliterator Training Programs, with the additional responsibility of curriculum development. They have been instrumental in the design of the Cued Language Transliterator National Certification Examination. Both are certified spoken English-cued English transliterators and certified ASL-English interpreters. Together, they have over 35 years of experience in interpreter and transliterator education.

They have written numerous books and articles on signed language linguistics and ASL-English interpretation. To date, they have written the only texts specifically on the topic of cued language linguistics and cued language transliteration. They head the team of educators that presents the CLT Professional Education Series.
